Introduction
to Meditation
Have you heard the benefits of meditation?
Meditating can reduce your stress, support your immune system,
lower blood pressure, decrease symptoms of depression, increase
self-awareness and aid you in experiencing your connection to
the Divine.
This one day course will introduce you to the concepts and practices
of one of the simplest and most profound techniques of meditation.
Vipassana,
"The Secrets are in the Breath"
Vipassana Meditation is
the most practiced spiritual discipline of self-purification
and awareness. Vipassana supports self-awareness using introspection,
self-observation and watching the breath. This intensive course
is designed to give someone new to meditation a thorough understanding
of the concepts and practices of this most ancient Buddhist
technique of meditation. Vipassana also supports the experienced
meditator in expanding his/her own practices simply and profoundly.
This course supports you to have a sharpened awareness, to observe
the changing nature of the body and mind and to experience the
universal truths of impermanence, egoless-ness and the illusion
of suffering.
Meditation
Intensive
-
This
10 week course begins with the basics that will set the tone
for an optimal meditation practice. This course will guide
you through a deeper understanding of the different types
of meditation. There are 5 basic types of meditations, with
many sub-categories and techniques falling under these topics.
Throughout this course, you will spend 2 weeks on each specific
'stepping stone', assisting you in building and strengthening
the 'inner temple'.
-
Stepping
Stone #1: RELAXING THE BODY AND SETTING INTENT
During the first two weeks of the course, you will learn a
tested technique that will assist you in relaxing the body,
thus allowing you to rest in what is taking place during the
meditation. You will also learn about the significance of
setting your own personal intent during your meditation time.
-
Stepping
Stone #2: GUIDED MEDITATION AND IMAGERY
Weeks 3 & 4 are designated for guided imagery and guided
meditations. This technique is the most commonly used practice
in the West and the most supportive tool that you have to
create the life that you choose and desire. Since our thoughts
create our realities, having a specific time set aside to
create the life we choose will allow the body to recharge
and regenerate itself while the power of the mind is harnessed
to create the life we wish to create.
-
Stepping
Stone #3: THE POWER OF BREATH
Weeks 5 & 6 are devoted to what is known as 'Vipassana'
and the utmost importance of breath. Breath is the only constant
that remains from the time we enter into the body until the
time we leave the body. Breath is more than just breathing,
but it is the gateway to the "Breath of Life," the
breath of All That Is. Many Eastern meditation practices appreciate
this importance and use these practices as the fundamental
basis for their specific faiths.
-
Stepping
Stone #4: THE POWER OF MANTRA
Weeks 7 & 8 are designed to explore song, sound, chant
and mantra. A mantra is a sound, word, or group of words that
have a specific resonance, and when repeated over and over,
bring the body and mind into a space of understanding, growth
and peace.
- Stepping Stone #5:
THE POWER OF MOVEMENT
Weeks 9 & 10 are the conclusion of this specific course
and are devoted to moving and/or active meditations. See "The
Art of Moving Meditations" for a more detailed explanation
The
Art of Moving Meditations
This 8-week course delves
deeper into techniques that assist us in learning to move through
life with more grace and ease than ever before. Most people
think of meditating as sitting in a specific posture and being
still during the time of meditation. In the West, the idea of
being still is the hardest part of meditating. Moving / Active
meditations are ideal techniques to address this conundrum,
while still providing all the benefits available through sitting
meditations. Life at its utmost is always active and moving,
and these techniques will give you an outlet for catharsis,
as well as celebration. It is one thing to be able to maintain
peace during the stillness of meditating, but another to be
able to maintain peace as you move through life. Some of these
techniques are specifically designed to assist the body in the
release of 'cellular memory', old and unwanted emotional pain/sufferings,
while others are specifically designed for celebration and dancing
your way through life.
Meditation
for Well-being
Meditation can have a
very profound effect on a person's health and well-being. Science
has shown that meditation can and does have a very powerful
influence on a person's increased sense of over-all wellness,
builds the immune system, reduces pain, lowers blood pressure
and diminishes the effects that stress has on the body. This
series is designed specifically with a focus on health, using
the power of intention, visualization and the techniques used
with Vipassana. This class is centered on practical and useful
techniques that are not based in any specific spiritual philosophy
or practice.
Meditation
Intensive: "Train the Trainer"
A 10 + week course which
gives you a strong foundation to develop or expand upon your
own meditation practice, and/or begin to facilitate your own
meditation group. This course begins with the groundwork that
supports a powerful meditative journey and continues each week
to elaborate upon more techniques, as well as a core emphasis
on facilitation and group leadership. This course does not follow
one specific doctrine; rather it provides a basis that will
equip you to develop meditation programs that will support a
variety of populations. You will learn how to set-up, organize
and follow through as the leader of a group meditation.
This course
begins with the stages that will set the tone for optimal meditation
